Now, being closed for a whole season, your pool covers may get debris, dirt very naturally. Also, the water becomes dirty, unsuitable for bathing. There may be moss around the pool cover as well. So there are certain things to do before you again dive in it to bathe:-

#1) Clean the Winter Pool-cover

The first thing we need to do is to get rid of the winter leaves, debris, and dust above the pool cover. If we do not clean these, then they may get dumped into the water which will add more work. Now to do so, we need a sump pump, a pool-cover pump. It is basically used for removing excess water if there is any above the pool cover. Also, we need a broom, brush, a skimmer net to remove the debris. We must keep it in mind that no tool must be sharp enough to create holes in the cover.

#2) Remove your Pool Cover aside

After the cleaning up is over, remove the cover carefully. If you cannot do it alone, get help from anyone. Just make sure that you are cleaning, drying and keeping the cover for the next season with good care. Some people use plastics which is not a bad option but it is also very sensitive when it comes to cleaning. Also, be careful from the rats as they are always ready to bite and cut everything they can.

#3) Put off Winter Plugs and Install Summer Equipment

After successfully removing the pool cover we need to get rid of the winter plugs, and other winterizing equipment from the pool. To do that, we have to find if there is an opening for the filter, water-heater or skimmer, etc. Then these winter attachments need to be subsided. Now, we need to install summer components like skimmer baskets, eye-ball fittings, etc. Also, we need to put the winter equipment carefully for further use.

#4) Empty the Pool

After a long season when you are going to use the pool again, you must change its water. To do that, you must at first get the water out of it. This can be done by a garden hose or by an electrical submersible pump. This will give you the chance for other necessary steps to be done easily.

#5) Set up the Summer Equipment

Now before filling your pull up, you must start doing the set up of necessary summer equipment. The pump and filter need to be set up after replacing the winter plugs, gauges, and other tools as necessary. Also, do check whether the hoses are well connected to the pump and filter chlorinator. You must check the overall connections as well. You may also add a thermometer and ladder at the end of this setup.

#6) Clean your Pool-interior

Before filling the above-ground pool with water, also the interior of the pools need to be cleaned well. You must use a brush to remove the wall-debris. The floors may be scrubbed as well.

Now you may refill the pool with water to your comfort level. But you must assure that the water you are pouring is fresh and clean. If it is not, then the next steps you must be following.

#8) Check the Pump and Filter

After the proper setup of summer equipment and filling up your ground-pool with water, it is important to check the whole system before starting. So, add a basket of water to your pump and turn it on. Then, see if there is any leakage in the hose pipe and whether the water is coming via the inlet at a good pace or not. These things must be well supervised in case of above ground pools.

#9) Shock your Pool and Check the Balance

If the water is not clean, then you need to shock and balance the water. What it shows is whether the water needs any extra chemicals to be added to purify it or not. There are home-test kits available to do it. The water needs to be shocked with chlorine if there are any harmful bacteria. This needs to be done in the evening or night when there will be no sunlight, because the chlorine may get burnt.

#10) Let the Pool Rest for a Day

After all the proceedings are done, you must let the pool run. It will help in water circulation and dissipation of the chemicals used in shock. The chlorine will be lower by that time as well and the water will look fresh. Also, you will be able to witness whether everything is working well or not.

Conclusion

Owning an above-ground pool needs necessary maintenance. Opening an above-ground pool can be done easily by these steps one by one. If you can not do it by yourself, you must get it done by professionals. After all, no one can wait to swim in the pool when summer comes. Also, every equipment needs to be checked regularly along with the draining of pool-water. All these will help to increase the longevity of your pool to give you the best results.
